I was gifted a Grainfather G30 and a FastFerment, along with some other goodies. I was doing a "dry run" with PBW and when I got to chilling and transferring to fermenter, I realized it was leaking. The crack is at the neck, just above the threads for the valve. Only thing I could do to fix it would be to use epoxy, but I don't know anything about epoxy or how food safe they are.

I was pretty excited about using this, because I have pretty limited space, and the FastFerment takes up about 1/4 to 1/3 of the space that other equipment would, and it filters out the spent yeast.

Being that I know zero about brewing as well, perhaps I'm missing something. I was thinking the next-best thing to fixing the fermenter would be to get two 6.5 gallon buckets and a transfer pump, but what about the spent yeast? Muslin bag across the top of the bottling bucket?

Or should I try to fix it?

Racking canes are highly useful for pulling the beer off the yeast cake when it's time to bottle or keg. One manipulates the tip of the cane to follow the beer level down and avoid sucking up the yeast.

As for that fermentor, low density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic is notoriously difficult to do anything with other than welding. See if you can find some LDPE specific solution for a reasonable price that you can trust...

Cheers!

i find that if you tip the fermenter back with a wedge during fermentation the yeast forms a cake on the opposite side of the fermenter instead of forming and even layer on the bottom. . or at the very least the cake is much thicker on one side than the other. then when ready to transfer you tip the fermenter the other way and then you will get all beer on one side of the fv and thick cake on the other. (and i do love me some thick cake btw. )

also a spigot is a godsend on a fermenter IMO

Thanks, y'all. I picked up a Fermonster. Love that I can carry it around with ease! Because, you know, sometimes you wanna take it with you.
