Cork vs Rubber bungs?

I've never seen cork as a bung. I've seen vinyl-ish stuff, and rubber. I think cork would be ok, but it might be oxygen permeable in the long term.
 
cork would be hard to sanitize? it has all kinds of crevices. What are you trying to bung? Homebrew shops have drilled and undrilled stoppers made for beverage use at fair prices, I'd stay away from the black rubber stuff at the hardware store. The black stuff smells bad, and is not as pliable as the HBS ones.
