Corbonation question?

Hi,

Tried a quick search around the site but couldn't answer these questions for sure...

Firstly (and most importantly...) I'm currently drinking a fairly flat tasting glass of beer that initially had around 1+1/2 inches of head that disappeared almost instantly.

I wasn't sure whether I'd over-gassed it or under-gassed it?

Also worth noting that it's certainly not warm but could be colder...

I gassed it warm at 280kpa for 48 hours and then fridged it... What do you think?

Secondly... Is it cool to keep your gas bottle & regulator in the fridge with your beer? My home brew supplier said it could shorten the life span of the regulator but if anyone thinks otherwise I'd be keen to hear.

Well I dont know how long you've had it cool since it was at room temp. It will take some time for the co2 to completely dissolve in the beer. At colder temps, co2 stays in solution longer. But you may be fine at your temp, maybe just need more time for it to equalize.

Try a chilled(not frozen) glass and try pouring 1-2 ounces out (or drink them) them continue pouring a full pint.

It's fine to have the co2 bottle in there, I've never heard anything about life span of the reg. Just know that at colder temp, you high pressure gauge will show a lower reading , so dont freak out over it. The high pressue gauge is basically useless, as it will have the same reading almost until you run out of co2.

a ton of foam and flat tasting usually means the CO2 fell out of solution rapidly for a variety of reasons.

could be a temperature issue. it could be being dispensed too quickly/too high of pressure. it might be overcarbonated.
