So I am still after 10 years using a braided stainless steel manifold in the bottom of the cooler. What is the advantage to building a fancy slotted copper pipe system?

Do you have any issues with your braided hose?

If you answer no, then there is no advantage.

Do you fly sparge? If you do, then a properly designed manifold can limit the channeling that can occur with a braided hose. If you don't notice a problem, you may not have one.

Batch Sparging pretty much drains all the wort anyway, so channeling is not a consideration.

Bottom line is that if you are happy with what you are using, there isn't any good reason to change. Even if you were to get 5-8 more points of efficiency, it's not enough to warrant a change IMO.
