Has anyone ever put a false bottom in a stainless conical and used it as a mash tun? I found a great deal on a used one and was curious if anyone has had success insulating and retro fitting one for this purpose.

that’s always an option. Its the 42 gallon Blichmann and was trying to use it for larger batches rather than look for a large mash tun. Thank you

I like the way you think outside the box.

You would need a way to insulate the fermentor. Blichmann makes a fermentor jacket for the 42 gal fermentor, or you could make your own using something like reflex insulation.

The difficult part would be to safely remove the grain from the 42 gallon fermentor since it won't be light.
