Condensate Hood Ventless, could it work?

I'm doing BobbyM's version of that. He's getting some in at brewhardware.com any day now, and as soon as he does, I'm in on it. Had a TC port welded to my kettle (only a 10-gallon) specifically for that.

I'd make that plan A. Will be way less than half the cost. Secondary benefit is that you will reach boil more quickly and use less electricity to maintain a boil. I don't know how much that will translate into a lower electricity bill, but over time it will add up.

I have an issue with the ventless system for one specific case. When I brew a big stout (think 12% or so), I typically do a large and long boil. I do this for two reasons, one, I get better efficiency by producing more volume of wort and boiling it off. I also like what the long boil/significant boil off does for the beer.

With a condenser system like brundog's, I won't get the boil off I need for those beers. I could use it for everything else, but if I can't use it all the time and I need a vent system at all, there's little need to set up for both.

Certainly don’t mind if the condenser isn’t a fit for you, but you might consider another method to bump your OG like DME. Long/hard boils are not good for your beer. Ask the LODO guys, or see those resources for the science.

I only do that for really big stouts and I love the results. My first big stout I augmented with DME...did not like it. Thanks for the suggestion though....
