Hi folks,

I was wondering if there were any folks in here who carry concealed. I'm not starting this thread as a debate on if carry if justifiable. I put this in the 18+ area because it involves firearms and in most states you need to be at least 18 years of age or older to possess/carry a firearm. Here in Kentucky to even get your CCDW license you must be 21 years of age or older.

I am a legal card carrying concealed carrier. My carry firearm is a Glock 27 40. I use a Crossbreed Supertuck Delux holster.

I have never had to use my firearm for self defense, but I am a firm believer in my right to carry firearms.

Anyone else?

The wife and I have been meaning to do it for years......just haven't gotten around to it. I carry a Sig 2022 9mm. I'm a big fan of the 2nd Amendment.

I have thought about it for years and probably should get off my duff and do it. I have nothing interesting to carry. I think the only hand guns I own are a Ruger Superblackhawk .22/Mag with a 8"+ barrel and a New Army Blackpowder replica (and my BIL's '51 Navy replica).

I may also have a derringer type gun, but not sure if I left that with my Stepmom. It's in dangerous shape anyway, so it's not ever going to have a round put in it.

I have a Walther P22 I carry. Small I know but more of a deterrent than something to kill. Getting a 9mm soon. Thinking S&W Sigma. Have had my permit for 2 years now.

The Sig 2022 is a fantastic firearm. Very nice choice!

Anything works bro. There are some really nice (and affordable) concealed carry guns available. A friend of mine carries a Kel-Tec PF9, I think its around $230-300 brand new. I've heard a lot of good things about it, its very light, very reliable, and very affordable. It's a 9mm. Just fire about 100 rounds through it to break it in.

Heck... I wouldn't want to be shot with a 22. I think the Walther p22 is a great handgun, and it's much better than nothing. Like you said, it's a deterrent. I think any handgun would be enough to make a criminal think twice. A 9mm wouldn't be a bad idea though if you decide you want to upgrade your stopping power. God forbid you ever need to use it.

I'm not sure of your local laws, is it impossible to get a CCDW permit in SoCal? I have a friend in Anaheim who (I believe) has his CCDW permit.

I sold guns at a Sports Authority in SoCal during college. To get your CCDW permit there, you need a seriously compelling argument and a lot of paperwork. And you usually only get the permit for a certain time period (i.e. if you have a restraining order against someone violent/dangerous, you might get the permit for the duration of the legal order). I knew a jeweler who had his permit because he regularly carried hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry with him to and from his store.

Access to the permit is controlled by the county sheriff. I remember when Mike Corona took that job, he made it a bit easier, but it was still virtually unattainable to the average enthusiast. I've been out of the loop for quite a few years though so I don't know the current state of the permitting process...

Oh, and people with connections (i.e. law enforcement, gun range owners, friends of politicians) tend to get preferential treatment there as well..

When I was living in Clarksville TN/Oak Grove KY I got my CCDW super easy due to the line of work I am in. Glock 19 with a Galco CC holster.

I love my 2022....have put thousands of rounds through it. Found that I had much better followup with a 9mm vs a 40. My brother who is a cop always makes fun of me for shooting a 9mm.

Anywhere in California is prohibitively difficult to get a concealed carry permit, heck its even hard to buy a firearm period. This is one of the reasons I moved to Texas.

Shoot what your comfortable with bro. No shame in that. If you can put more 9mm rounds on target comfortably then go with that. I grew up shooting my pops old Smith/Wesson 357. mag, so for a while I carried that even though it was terribly heavy (for a concealed handgun). I have a Beretta 92fs (9mm) that I carry once in a while also because it's just so comfortable to shoot.

Always thought about it, but there are all types of places that you can't or don't want to go while carrying, etc. It just seems like more of a hassle than it's worth generally.

If I felt a bit more unsafe, then yea, but between me and all of my CCW friends and not, it adds up to some thousands of years of living without ever having a need to pull a firearm, and the vast majority of cops never even have to pull their firearm.

If the numbers ever start to skew around, I'll definitely start doing it, but right now the risk/reward ratio just isn't there for me.

My sidearms are for protecting my home, and me from bears and other predators while out hunting, hiking and camping for now.

Well, besides schools, banks, or government buildings there really aren't a ton of places that I frequent enough to make carrying concealed difficult (for me at least).

The reason I wanted to carry concealed was due to an attack I was involved with. I know the chances are really low of an attack happening, but it happened to me and I'm sure I would have died if one of my friends wasn't there to get that dude away from me after I fell to the ground.

Sorry for making this topic morbid, but I wanted you guys to know that I do carry for a reason, and that's obviously protection.

does anyone still carry Derringers? my FIL has an old one (not safe for firing anymore) and damn it looks pretty cool, and really small too.

I have a friend that carries a Derringer (like), 22. I don't think its a real Derringer, but the model is very similar.

True that. I don't begrudge anyone wanting to CC. There are good reasons to do it. The thread just asked about people whom did, etc and for me the tipping point hasn't been reached. I registered for a class, then dropped it because I had no real use. Tempted to get it just to have it, but it just doesn't fit me right now.

I do a lot of work on military bases, which check everything at the gate. Most socializing I do occurs in places that serve alcohol, where I wouldn't want to carry if it was legal or not. When I'm in my car, I have my car as a weapon, plus it being cumbersome to utilize a firearm there. At home I'd just take it off anyways. I just don't really see where I personally would utilize it. But I lead my own life, and everyone's circumstances are different. I open carry while hiking and doing some other activites, but don't really have a need to conceal carry.

Not topic hijacking but we had a similar situation happen to our "community" about 5 years ago. A man and his wife were at a bar in Fayetteville NC(yup). No this guy was a big man, strong into mixed martial arts and his lovely 5'4" wife was as well. Somebody said something to his wife that was inappropriate she replied in kind the offender said something else. Then husband stepped in to diffuse the situation. Husband was hit from behind by a pool cue then 6 grown men started to kick and stomp his head and neck. Wife went out to the truck grabbed the .45 came back into the bar and proceeded to dispatch the attackers. Husband being a good member of the "community" taught his loved ones how to shoot. She went to jail for 6 years for A) Excessive force due to her "training" B) Bringing a gun into an establishment that serves booze. Bouncers you ask ...did nothing. Her sentence was reduced to 2 years. He would've died if she hadn't intervened.

God Bless Texas. Ruger LCP daily carry in an ankle holster.

I've been victim of a home invasion, thwarted by my weapon (Downtown Houston after Katrina. Yikes!) Things would be a lot different today if not for my gun.

It's not a free pass to play vigilante, like a lot of ant-gunners think us CCW people act. If anything, it has made me calmer and less-likely to get involved in a pissing contest with angered hot-heads. It's all about de-escalation and knowing the laws.

I'm not a big fan of handguns (much prefer shooting rifles) but the criminals think they are all too cool. As a result, the only time I'm unarmed is when I'm at work. I carry a Springfield XD 45 Compact in a Crossbreed Supertuck holster most other times (wearing it right now in fact). I also have a AMT 45 Backup in a pocket holster I use when I stop going to/coming from work. I also have a CZ-52 and a Browning Buckmark but those are for sport, not carry.

Taking the course on Feb 3rd which will get me the MN and UT certification which gives you a lot of reciprocity states. One of those things I've always wanted to do, just never got around to it. Me and a buddy are forcing each other to get off our lazy butts and stop talking.

Side bar conversation. My bro-in-law and his friend in FL (Orlando) went to the gun range to shoot some off. Left the range & headed back home. They were being followed by a car with 3 or 4 guys in it that they never noticed. Don't recall all the details but wherever it was that they stopped, they rushed at them, guns locked and loaded. Forced them to the ground, guns at their heads, and robbed them of everything, including the guns. Don't recall if they took the car or not. Broad daylight on a Saturday.

I think his buddy had a CCL but quite frankly not sure if they would have drawn their weapons if it would have ended nicely. All depends on the situation your in. Apparently this had been going on at this range for at least 4 incidents and they never told anyone! Scary sh!t and now you'll all be thinking about it when you leave the range too.

Unless I'm clocked on at work or drinking I have a G29 on my hip.

Its the same reason I carry a leatherman, its just another tool in case you need it. My wife carries also, but not as much as I'd like.

A CCW in So. California? Not likely!

It's because getting shot with a bullet is known in the state of california to cause cancer.
