Any of you tried usign Columbus hops for flavor/aroma?
How much for a 5gal batch?
What's the aroma profile, if any?

Everywhere I look Columbus is only used for bittering or dry hopping. But no comments on the aroma profile even when dry hopping.

I'm planning on brewing a robust porter and am struggling on defining the aroma hops for a grassy, piney aroma.

Search for Denny's Rye IPA, one of many that use Columbus (Tomahawk/Zeus) for flavor or aroma. Works very well IMO.

My IPA is typically single-hop Columbus or bittered with Magnum and then entirely Columbus for flavor/aroma and for dry-hopping.

I usually do 2 oz [per 5 gal] @ either 5 min or flameout, then dry hop with 2 oz [per 5 gal] for two weeks.

Columbus is often described as having some grapefruit aroma, I get maybe a little bit of pine. Definitely seems a bit resiny too. Very tasty :)
