Cold Crash in a Corny

Just wanted to make sure I get some feedback before I cold crash in my Corny. I have done it this way before and it turned out great but since I can't find a thread outlining the process I wanted to ask.

When I cold crash in a corny I hook up my CO2 at a VERY low setting so when the keg sucks in air it is brining in a little CO2 instead of O2. Is this the right way to do a cold crash? Do I need to hook up CO2 at all? I could also connect a tube to a bucket of sanitized water but I have seen too many people post the water being sucked in.

Thoughts?

why would it be able to suck in O2? Those relief valves are 1-way. If your fermentor is sealed it wont take anything in from outside. I would just pressurize it at 30psi room temp and then when it gets cold, laws of physics will do the rest. Your beer will be at least partly carbed afterwards. You can always hit it with 10-14psi (depending on your system) intermittently during the crash to get it fully carbed and ready after its done
 
Thanks for your response. I guess the real question is should I hook gas up to the corny when I cold crash or not? If I don't connect CO2 into the keg it will not damage the corny during cold crash will it?

Sure, why not? I mean you don't have to, but why not give carbonation a boost?

When you put the beer in the keg, you can give it a blast of c02, purge and repeat twice, ending with a blast of c02. That will have a protective effect, but the beer will absorb some of the c02. If you keep it hooked up to the gas, it will start carbing up as well.
 
I agree w/ Yooper ( who wouldn't). My batches yield two kegs so put them both in my lager chamber @ 35°F & I hook up one to the CO2 @ 15 PSI. Then once or twice a day I hit the 2nd keg w/ CO2. At the end of a week the first keg is ready & the second only takes another day or so since it's been gradually absorbing CO2 for a week.
