I am thinking of doing a Imperial Stout extract kit next brew:drunk:. I would like to tweak by adding coffee and molasses. I think I know how I will do the coffee (cold brew and add when I bottle. I am not sure when the best time to add molasses would be. Anyone else added molasses before? If so, when and how much did you add (5 gal batch)?

You can add it any time during the boil. I used 8 oz in a barleywine and it was over a year before it mellowed. But, I'm not all that fond of the flavor and I used black strap.

Small amounts is all I can say! Boil=good, secondary=hold on! Tried that and ended up with a nice explosion when I got home. The yeasties took to it nicely! Added roughly 12 oz. and that was all I could taste in my brown suger beer. Supposed to be a brown ale, with a molasses flavor. Ended up being a molasses malt beverage flavored, ....beverage.

Molasses Malt beverage might be good over ice cream! Sounds like adding to the boil it is.
