I am in the mix of building a keezer and I am looking for advice. As an electrician I am very comfortable with electricity and wiring but gas regulators are new to me! I received a 5 lb CO2 container today and hooked it up to my brand new regulator to check the meter movement of my gauges. They arrived with dents in the aluminum. I hooked up my regulator and turned the CO2 tank all the way open and neither moved a bit. I pulled open the pressure relief valve and nothing come out. So I turned off the CO2 and removed the regulator and CO2 vented out. I contacted Keg Connection and they are sending me a new hi and low pressure gauge. I've read reports of diaphragms being broken and wondered if this was also possible? Any advice would be appreciated.

The damage is easier to see on low pressure.
 
Did you receive the CO2 canisters in the mail or UPS or something like that? I believe that they have to ship those empty. At least the ones I have seen all say that. So maybe there are just not filled? Just a thought.
 
unless you see physical damage to the regulator body, the regulator itself is probably fine. the gauges are what need to be accurate. same thing happened to my low pressure gauge from keg connection. apparently their shipping/packaging needs some work.
 
I've busted lots of gauges. Regulator is fine, the needles for the gauge just can't move because of the dents in the casing.
 
When you open the output (to keg), does CO2 come out?

The first regulator I bought (different company) had a high pressure gauge with a dented face. I didn't think too much about it until I hooked it up and it would max out the low pressure gauge and pop the relief valve (no matter what I tried to adjust the regulator to) The regulator body looked perfect. They sent me a new high pressure gauge to replace the one with the dent, same issue. They sent me a complete replacement and all was fine, so it definitely was the regulator itself.

Not saying you have the same problem, just that the regulator could be damaged without looking like it is.
