I am new to adjusting my brew water and today was the first time I needed to use calcium carbonate. I noticed my water was very cloudy after adding it. Almost like it never fully dissolved. Will this affect the clarity of the finished product.

You never need to use calcium carbonate which is a good thing because it doesn't dissolve for a long time but eventually does this lowering the pH in the kettle, fermenter and finished beer. The part that doesn't dissolve at all should wind up trapped in the filter bed during the sparge so that eliminates a portion of it.

The days when home brewers thought they needed to add teaspoonfulls of chalk to water or mash are, I hope, long gone but there is a lot of the old misinformation which advocates its use still out there.
