Well duh... after bottling a batch of graff today, I put my siphon hose on my bottle washer and washed (rinsed) it out quick and easy. This is probably common practice among the experienced, but for noobs, something to think about.

I second that. Rinsing (with hot water) before anything has a chance to dry onto the tubing is the way to go. I soak the tubing in oxi, too.

After I rack the first thing I do is get a measuring cup filled w/water and soap and pump that mixture thur the siphon. Then I do the same w/clean water. FIRST THING. You don't want anything to dry in there. I had to toss a siphon and hose before I learned this trick.

I bought 100 ft of 3/8" vinyl tubing from coleparmer.com for about $20. Now if it still looks nasty after I rinse with sanitizer i just toss it and cut a new length.

I always do a hot rinse if I can, if not, a PBW soak, and still replace everything soft once a year. Probably a little over-cautious, but I'm ok with that.

I'd like to get one of those bottle washers with the little extension for cleaning tubing. That'd be quick & easy. At the moment, I use a funnel in one end & pour water through it, or hold it in the stream from the faucet into my homer cheapo bucket to rinse them out. If they're messy inside, I soak'em in PBW, then run a keg line cleaner brush through it & rinse well. Hanging it up on my wire shelf to dry. Here's a link for the 3/8" line cleaning brush; http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/cleaning/brushes/NHCB38.html Especially great for nasty blow off tubes.

I use an autosiphon and just pump with oxi water in the sink. Hot or not. Then just rinse with hot water. Over a year and going strong. Before I learned about oxiclean I just used dish soap.

Even if the tubing sets for a while before rinsing, it's usually difficult to get it to dry inside. I find after a week or more I still have water in my tubing from the last cleaning. Rinse with starsan and it's good to go.

I keep some hot sanitizer and hot cleaner on hand when racking. That way I can clean immediately after. Has done me well so far. I like to do the Crocodile Dundee and go outside to dry my hose out afterwards.

I fill my sink with hot water and starsans and let my bottles soak while I get everything ready for bottling and when I am done I pump the starsans sink water through my siphon, hose, and bottling wand. Clean and sanitized when I put it away. When I am ready to bottle, pump some through before hand.
