A soak in Oxiclean Free will work great. So will hot tap water with Powdered Brewery Wash (PBW). Don't use water hotter than what you tap can put out. It's not necessary and can damage the bottle.

I don't recommend any detergents.

I have great luck with "Ultimate Brewery Cleaner" sold at Austin as well. The instructions say to use 1 tablespoon per gallon of water but I use 1 for my whole 6.5 gallon carboy and it works just fine as long as I do it immediately after emptying the carboy.

I clean them immediately after use and I've never needed anything more than a little bit of hot water and a cloth. Just push the cloth inside and swirl it around with a bit of hot water.
