Clarification of Beersmith Statement Please!

This has been bugging me for a long time now. Looking for a clear cut answer to this confounding question:

If I intend to make a 50 IBU beer and end up with 5 gallons post-boil in the brew pot but I only transfer 4 gallons (due to hop/chliller loss = 1 gal), why does the IBU change so dramatically in beersmith?

Shouldn't the IBU remain constant no matter how much wort I manage to get into the fermenter from the brewkettle?

How exactly does trub/chiller losses factor into the overall calculation of bitterness???
