I recently bought some silicon tubing to work with my March pump.

I have found that the worm clamps I was using damaged the tube ends and allowed air into the tube making it impossible for the pump to pump.

Luckily I was able to switch back to my old tubing and finish the brew day.

Has anybody experienced this, as in the silicon tubing actually bleeding through the worm gears?

Any solutions?

Yes.

Solution. Clamp looser. I tighten mine just until the silicone begins to ooze through the perforations.

You could also look at Otiker clamps (common for PEX plumbing systems) or maybe wire clamps. No matter what you use tho if you clamp too tight the seal will fail.

Let me introduce you to the most brewer friendly, most useful clampage device in earth history; especially great for clamping silicone tubing.

Tie-wraps. :)

Sometimes, around here we already suspect the answer to our questions. It is always nice to hear it from others.

Thanks

Also used by the cops, a pocket full of the big 1/4" blackie-Ties can control a room full of bad boys. Fight 'em they dig in and cut ya. German worm gear clamps like BMW use are smooth no window slots that spit out and cut the tubing also works as they overlap at the worn preventing the bunched up and leaking problems. My automotive hobby spills over into other hobbies.

How tight are you making the zip ties?

I bought some fancy euro style hose clamps (not exactly like the BMW ones) that work ok, but not great. Might just have to switch them out for zips.

I just tripled up hand tight. The camlocks I have have long barbs on them so three seemed like a good number.

Edit: Plus they are low profile. Hose clamps are big. They get in the way of the camlock wings.

These Hellermann stainless ties at $0.62 each are a lower profile than Tie Wraps if your camlocks are hitting them. We had plastic as well stainless used in underground vaults plus outdoors in the sun.

These also work great plus cheap and can be reused if care is applied unlocking them.

I'm a big fan of
lkwiklampth.jpg
which I have bought at AHS they make a nice hand tight quick clamp and come part with a twist. I don't use QD's yet but these do not tear up the hose like worm drive clamps so I just use them on barbs, all is good.
Edit- Just noticed brewbeermer's second link is the same thing. I've noticed the smaller versions of these can be harder to unlock but the ones sized for 1/2" tube are easy.

Tie wrap gun. About $8 at Harbor Freight:

Wrapped around the hose barbs on my QDs:

This has been working perfectly for me. Zero leaking, the hoses don't get chewed up and it's very quick and easy to do.

Brew day went well as far as silicon tubing is concerned. I used two small ties per barb fitting and problem solved.

Thanks people.
