So I was gifted some Citra hops from 2014. They are still vacuumed sealed. They have never been opened. They have been refrigerated since they were packed by YVH. I dont plan on using them for dry hopping since they aren't fresh but would they still work great in the boil/whirlpool?

I would use them the same as a 2016 crop if they were never opened, just add about 20% more of them.....in other words, if your dry hopping 2oz of fresh stuff, do 2.5oz of the older stuff.

that's what I do with older stuff anyways, and havn't really noticed much of a difference.

awesome thanks. I kind of figured I'd have to use more when using them in the boil. I didnt think they'd be fresh enough for dry hopping. I guess ill know when i open them.

You may lose some bittering (although seeing how they've been stored, I wouldn't expect much loss there either) but flavor and aroma should be pretty much unchanged from using hops from the 2016 crop. Dry hopping with them would be fine.

i opened the bag and brewed with them the other day. everything about them seemed exactly the same as 2016 crop. thanks

if your cheap like me, you can scour the internets and find tons of deals on older hops like this. I do it all the time, and no one ever knows :)
