Thinking of making this for christmas
14 lbs of 2 row
1 lb chocolate malt
1.6 lb flaked oats
12 oz roasted barly
7 oz caramel
1 lb milk sugar
1 oz dried orange (sweet) 15 min
2 oz cocoa nibs 15 min
4 oz dark cocoa powder 15 min
4 oz cocoa nibs secondary
.5 oz nugget 60 min
.5 oz mt hood 30 min
.5 oz mt hood flameout
Not 100% sold on the idea yet
Any thoughts?
Not sure about using 04 yeast and am unsure if more hops are needed (18 IBU's seems low) or if that's too much cocoa. Feedback is appreciated. Thanks

I knew a Chris burns who started making beer, was a long shot. I can't imagine your name is super uncommon.

I tried this last year using Deception Sweet Stout as the base. I split off one gallon from the main batch and added natural orange extract. It was not a good match. The orange gave it a medicinal quality that highlighted all the wrong parts of the malt flavor. I hope yours works out, because I love the idea in theory.

I suggested my buddy soak cacao nibs in orange vodka, he said the orange is faint but there, which was the idea. Ill post more when I get a full carbonated bottle.

Made this beer and it's awful. Used bitter orange and must have left them in the beer too long. My very first drain pour. My girlfriend said it tasted like orange soy sauce.
