I just picked up a 5cubic ft chest freezer for fermentation purposes. It fits 1 carboy in perfectly and I'll be able to fit some 1 gallon meads or ciders in there too. My question is, do I need to drills hole and put my Johnson temp controller probe through it? Or just stick the probe through the door and shut it tight?

I have a chest freezer and I just close the lid on the temp probe wire without any problems. You don't want to drill through a freezer as you might nick a coolant line and ruin it.
