Cheap compact wort pump

Been reading through this thread and great stuff. Now I have never messed with electrical before, although though this seems much more simple. First off, what is the best PWM to use on this, affordable wise. Is http://www.ebay.com/itm/13114715278...&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true a good solution for that. Also does anyone have a link to either ebay or amazon with the correct power supply I should use. I've never done any wiring but I'm assuming this is more plug and play where I just twist the wires up and put one of those rubber coatings over the spot where I do so. Sorry may be a newb question but I've never done anything electrical.
 
The most recently posted eBay link shows photos that beg to differ. which is why I made my comment in the first place

The most recent link was from someone who found the pumps with barbed input/output selling for much cheaper than the threaded versions - so the 1/2 bsp is close enough to 1/2 npt comment makes perfect sense

Did you get 12v or 24v motors?
 
My 2 cents: I bought the original ops pump and for the most part it works great. However, on high gravity batches, the thickness of the sugars seem to gum up the mag drive about 45 minutes into the mash, causing it to stop working, often times requiring dis-assembly to get cleaned and started again. Otherwise, it works great. FYI, I only use it for 70-155 degree re-circulation before and during the mash, and nothing else.

Have you had issues with getting it primed? I had a heck of a time yesterday to get it primed.
 
I found a 24V 2.3A power supply (similar to a laptop supply) in a junk cabinet at work. I also used a barrel connector in the pump enclosure.
 
Does it run well with the laptop suply? I supose the flow it's a little slower?

Yeah they flow great. @ 18V. Even with the PWM controllers, flow is faster than I'd really like it to be for vorlaufing. Another annoyance is that I have to turn the PWM controllers up to 50% to get the pumps moving but then after that, I can dial them down to the speed I.

Sending it through the wort chiller is awesome though.
I just bought a bunch of camlocks and my 'dream' is zero drops spilled and a completely clean floor from mash in to the fermenter.

They do work better with a 2amp supply vs 1 amp I have done a decent amount of experimenting with different power sources and went from a bigger one to a 1 amp temporarily.. I noticed it took a higher setting on the pwm to get it going and they were more likely to stall if anything got in the flow path.. less Amps just means less torque in this case I guess.
I have both the 12v and 24 and this is the case for both.. I now power 3 24v pumps off of one main supply in my control panel which I believe is 6 Amps from memory.
 
That's a fine power supply but for the same price or a few dollars more you can step up to a 10 amp. You might as well. The only down side is a larger footprint in your pump box or power distribution box.

I assume this is switching and adjustable?
 
The tan ones are food grade ppsplastic with sealed encapsulated magnets The black ones that I've seen are not. Someone would need to buy this and pull it apart to varify but it likely isn't truly food grade or designed for it but rather water recirculation for solar water heating. Chances are it's also made of and plastic which might or might not be stable at boiling temps.. most abs is no longer food grade beyond 170 degrees... will you notice off flavors or feel sick ? Not likely and this seems to equate to good enough for many folks here so..
 
I have 2 more of these on the way as spare/back-up pumps. The 2 have been using have been trouble free so far though.
