Do you know what part of town you are moving to yet?

Salud is a great bottle shop with a very good draft selection, and they have takeover-type events quite frequently. It's also very close to Heist, NoDa Brewing, Free Range.

I'll be renting for a while...probably south of uptown most likely...then eventually looking at union county to buy since we have school age kids ...

Thanks the tips...

If you are moving to the South End area you will have a ton of options. Good Bottle Co, Brawleys, Common Market for bottle shops. For Breweries you will also be right in the thick of it Wooden Robot, Triple C, Olde Meck, Sycamore just to name a few. We have some bottle share ever so often here. Let me know when you get to town and welcome to the QC

All great suggestions JohnnyNC. Unfortunately, at some point in the near future I believe the Common Market in Southend is closing, but the Plaza Midwood location will stay open. Craft Growler Shop hasn't had a tap list I've ever cared for, even w like 40 options, but they often have bottles that lag in sales behind some of the other bottle shops. Rhino Market is a little further from southend, but they have a good sandwich shop and tap list/bottles. Duckworth's on Park Rd, as well as the Duckworth's Cellar in uptown. The Cellar will tap some crazy stuff once in awhile. Hope that helps. Someone mentioned Roasting Co above as well, and they have one of the best local/NC lists for a restaurant, and I love their food.

I'll be in Charlotte visiting a friend on Friday night. I'll just be around for the evening, and I'm planning to check out Heist, Wooden Robot, and Salud. Anything else that's a must do beer-wise in Charlotte?

I've only been in CLT for a couple weeks but I'd say that's a pretty good trio you've got there.

Cage is old, ****.

The only thing I regret about my last trip to Charlotte was not getting enough Heist crowlers.

And I'm glad NODA isn't on your list. I had 4-5 beers which were all mediocre-******.

We'll be in Charlotte next weekend. I've got a work conference on Sunday. Any help with restaurants for Saturday and Sunday night, breakfast on Monday, and things for my wife to do on Sunday while I'm in a conference all day would be greatly appreciated.

My friend in Charlotte picked up some Citraquench'l for me today. I hope there'll be some left on draught when I get there on Friday.
Probably will be, since no one is getting crowlers anymore now that cans are out. Luckily a buddy was able to scoop me a 4 pack. Sold out in like 2 hours I think. 90 something cases is the word on the street. I gotta say that, if you like hazy juicy hoppy IPAs, these rival some of the TH and trill stuff.

wuntrikpony I kinda wanted to visit NoDa for nostalgia's sake, but I don't think I'll have time. I've never been there, but I used to drink a lot of HDR.

Had their latest - Good Will Hopping - last night...thought it was actually a pretty solid beer. Liked it enough to get a half growler to go.

Best food for the money in town could be pushing it, but Roasting Co. is definitely tasty if you order the right things.
YUP!
chicken black bean combo with side salad (house gorgonzola vinaigrette dressing) and squash casserole ftw.

Where in Charlotte are you staying?

Not sure where the Sheraton is exactly. If you are close to South End there are a ton of good bottle shops/breweries in that area. Brawleys, Good Bottle, Wooden Robot, Triple C, Sycamore, etc. Saturday night you may want to check out Olde Mecklenburg Brewery for dinner. If you are trying to go somewhere nice 5Church, BLT Steak, are good in uptown. If you are looking for BBQ I would recommend Midwood Smokehouse or Queen City Q. Duckworths is a good spot if you are looking for something with a lot of taps. Hope that helps and you enjoy Charlotte.

Enjoyed my Charlotte visit yesterday. Heist was unreal. All the IPAs there were world-class. A friend picked up a 4-pack of Citraquench'l for me, and I grabbed two more crowlers while I was there. Picked up some bottles in GSO and Charlotte also.

Sorry about the poor photo quality. My phone broke on the trip, and I had to buy a cheap one while I was down there, and that's what I took the pic with.
L2R: Olde Hickory Scotch barrel stuff, Ad Idem, Grimm sours, Zebulon saisons, Logsdon Seizoen Bretta, Green Bench Petit Provision, a Terrapin sour saison collab, Holy Mountain Goat, Heist hops.

Salud was bizarrely not air conditioned. It was easily 85+ F in there. Not sure how that affects the beer, but I can't imagine it's positive.

I'm sorry you had a fluke experience at Salud. The HVAC unit failed on Friday afternoon, and the heating and air company that came out couldn't fix it in time. It was definitely warm in there, but I can't imagine it did much to the bottles.

Ahhh, that's good. I was concerned that was a normal thing (my friend whom I was visiting down there said it was hot last time he was in there, too). Got some great bottles and a crowler there, and I look forward to revisiting next time I'm in the area. Couldn't believe Salud had Holy Mtn. I had just been asking a friend about how I could try some of their stuff.

What's new in Charlotte? Any new beers/breweries around town to discuss? Scene updates? Need to get this thread rocking, I'm used much more activity in a local thread :p

So far I'm a big fan of heist, wooden robot and lenny boy....haven't made it to salud yet...but ****, total wine and grocery stores are way better than what I'm used to in Pittsburgh...

Very happy with beer options in Charlotte so far...

There was a Heist can release today. Triple C has a bottle release tomorrow. I'll try to be better about updating in this thread

Damn. I definitely need some heist cans to bring back to Pittsburgh next time I go. Yeah if you catch wind of any releases let me (us) know man...appreciated.
