Can you use castile soap for cleaning your equipment? It's basically a mix of olive oil and sodium hydroxide, but I've never known anyone who said it was, or wasn't, an alternative for other cleaning agents prior to sanitization.

Castile is usually 100% olive oil. All soap uses sodium hydroxide (lye) in the process of converting the fats to a soap (saponification).

Castile soap is a gentle soap, but I don't use any soap at all on my brewing gear. I clean with oxiclean if cleaning is needed, and rinse well.
Same with Yoop, if I need to clean anything I use Oxyclean or if I have some PBW (but that's rare) and hot water. But mostly I just use hot water and a something to produce pressure, like a carboy cleaner or a garden hose pressure wand.
