Carbonation using a starter instead of carbonation drops?

I have a mostly fermented batch of brewers best cider that I will be bottling in a few days. When I started homebrewing I went straight to kegging because it seemed a lot quicker and easier than bottling, but then I realized I could only ever have two batches on hand since I only have room for two kegs in my keezer. To work around this, I had planned on bottling this batch. Most of the brewers best beer kits include instructions for bottling with some priming sugar to bottle carbonate. I just realized the cider instructions want you to use carbonation drops, of which I don't have any.

So my question is, can I use priming sugar the way you would with a beer to bottle carbonate or is that not going to work? I have a ton of priming sugar left over from the beer batches I kegged.

I happen to have an empty keg so I can always keg the cider, but I was looking forward to trying something different this time, not to mention the greatly enhanced portability that bottles provide over kegs.

My nearest HB store is about 45 mins away, so I'd rather not make a trip just for carbonation drops. Any other options that would allow me to bottle this batch?

Use an online carbonation calculator and you can use nearly any fermentable sugar for carbonation for beer or cider. I suppose you wouldn't want to use malt extract to prime cider, though. Just be careful to measure your priming sugar by weight before boiling in water and adding to bottling bucket to get the appropriate amount of carbonation. Using table sugar will save you a ton of money, ultimately, over using corn sugar/priming sugar from LHBS.

+1 on the above, I've bottle carbed and keg carbed using only plain table sugar and never had an issue (related to the sugar anyway :p )
