Is bottling with an extract instead of sugar improve the taste? I was reading an article on boulevard wheat and they said it goes under a secondary fermentation in the bottle with carbs it. Has anyone ever done this and how much extract would I need for a five gallon batch? Planning on doing a hefe in the next couple weeks. Thanks

It's such a small amount that the flavor difference is minimal, if at all.
Plus, the sugar ferments cleaner - sometimes with the malt it can leave a small krausen ring on the neck of the bottle. Harmless of course, just doesn't look good.

For me, sugar is SO much cheaper than DME so that's what I stick with.

EDIT: It's your homebrew, so if you want to try it, go for it. I'm sure it'll taste awesome. You need to use more DME than sugar, probably ~1 cup.

Just curious if anyone tried it and the effects. I like your thoughts and I'll probably stick with sugar. I don't want that ring if that is what it does. Thanks

Try searching the forum - I'm sure someone has done it & posted their results.
