Hi all. Quick question. I went into the NB in Milwaukee yesterday and for the 1st time got my own all grain kit. I went with their recipe for Irish Red. When I got home I realized I grabbed .75 lbs of Belgian CaraPils and not Belgian Caramel Pils. From the grain description they appear similar but I'm very new to this and just wanted to double check. I haven't brewed it yet but I did combine all grains into one bag. Any issues with this batch or should I make an adjustment?

I will be re-using a Irish Ale yeast that I washed from my Irish blonde which turned out great and my wife loves it :rockin:

Briess trademarked cara-pils is light 1.5L as stated above. The euro versions are little darker 7-10L and seem more like carm.10L in my opinion. Cheers!!

I started purchasing my ingredients in bulk. Cheaper and easier for me on brew day. With Irish Red Ale from Northern Brew, they have two recipe versions. One is all-grain and the other is extract. Sometimes more information is found when comparing the two different versions. For the all-grain recipe it calls out using Belgian Caramel Pils. In the extract version they use Cara 8. Cara 8 is a lighter version of caramel 10. There are several grains that would work. Depends on the color and flavor you’re looking for. I’d recommend using caramel 10. This grain adds flavor and body.
