My mother just bought 6 boxes of caps for me at an auction. They are new in the box, although they are antiques. They all have cork inserts in them rather than the silicone gasket. Are these ok to use or are they just a novelty? They are cool looking, but not sure how well they work. Thanks in advance

In theory they are fine. I've used them in the past (long past).
They are made to be boiled, unlike plastic liner caps. The problem is they are OLD.
The disks are amalgamated and today the binder is probably crumbling and its doubtfull they would survive the boiling and capping process.

Thanks amadabab,

That is kind of what I figured, I guess Ill just keep them as a novelty and use new style caps like normal.
