My brewshop is closed today and I ran out of Step One sanitizer.

I heard you can use Oxy Magic to sanitize and bleach to finish and then put in the dish washer.

Can I mix both to avoid a step? And add bleach to the sanitizer mix? And then put in the dishwasher???

:drunk:

I don't see why you would need to use both. I would just use the bleach to sanitize, making sure to rinse well. On their website, Clorox® Oxy Magic says they are NOT a sanitizer/disinfectant so I wouldn't use it as such.

Never mix chemicals if you don't know what will happen. New chemicals can be created some of them dangerous and Fatally toxic (Even the fumes)

If you're talking about bottles, just use the Oxy to clean, rinse and you can put them in a 300 degree oven for about 20 minutes to sanitize. Bleach has to be WELL rinsed and with a bunch of bottles, that is some task. I have used bleach, in a pinch, for my glass carboy, but I spent 20 minutes rinsing & shaking & rinsing & shaking to get the bleach smell out. Then I rinsed & shaked some more.

Never mix cleaning products, my old chemistry teacher once told us a story about someone who did this and had to be admitted to hospital with severe respiratory problems - The cause? Chlorine gas had been released as the chemicals in each product reacted, and she had been inhaling the fumes as she cleaned. Nasty :cross:
