Cooked up a hefe for the 1st time. Directions said to boil for an hour. Ended up chocolate brown. Did I burn it?
 
This can happen. I brewed an American Wheat and, without thinking, poured the LME into the boil kettle while it was on the heat. I ended up with a darker beer that thankfully still tastes good, but there were black scorch marks on the bottom of the pot.

Lesson learned, don't add malt while the pot is on the heat.
