My dog tore open and pulled down a 50# bag of domestic 2-row, dumping it all over the floor in my shop. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f14/dead-dog-157579/ I managed to collect most of it, and my son and I winnowed it with a box fan and picked out all the stray stuff we could see. The grain actually looks pretty good. However, I think the dog went for the bag because something had dripped on it while it was in the freezer. Seems my wife had some spaghetti sauce in an open container in the freezer that dripped on the bag. I did not think any soaked in when I looked at it and cleaned if off last night. The bag was chewed up, so I can't tell for sure.

The grain now smells not of sawdust and dog hair, but smells faintly of spaghetti sauce. I tastes okay, like malt, not spaghetti. I was going to brew Edwort's porter with it. Now, I'm not so sure.

Has anyone faced something like this? Will the spaghetti sauce aroma carry through to the beer, or clear away with the boil? If it lingers, what should I make with it? Spaghetti sauce and porter don't sound like a great mix. I usually go for dark and malty beers. "Bread in a glass" suits me just fine, but spaghetti bread?? I'm not a big IPA fan, but would that be a safer bet with this malt? Something else?

Oh, yeah, the dog is still alive. I never touched him all day, and even fed the damned thing, though he didn't finish his food - too much malt, I guess!

I would brew with it. I would doubt any sauce smell or taste would carry over to the beer.

The grain should still be good, unless there is enough sauce to color the mash you won't taste it, and boiling it will kill off anything the dog drool may have left behind.
