Brewing a coffee stout tomorrow and I want to add some vanilla flavoring to it. I have read about people putting vanilla beans in their secondary. I am thinking of pumping my hot wort thru the hop rocket with vanilla beans in it.

Any one have any thoughts on this and how many beans to use or am I just better to put them in the secondary?

Thanks

I think 3 or so. I cut a slit down the side to open them. Flavor was subtle. Made a strong Porter with Vanilla, Jamaican rum and toasted oak chips. Was amazing with age.

The blichmann.

But I ended up putting them in my fast ferment- tried 3 beans with a slice down each one. I didn't get a lot of vanilla from them. Going to throw a couple more in the keg.
