What stores carry these and in what section? I can't seem to find them anywhere locally

Most online homebrew stores carry cocoa nibs.
In my neck of the woods, the high end grocery stores and the health food stores carry cocoa nibs. I think I have seen them around baking supplies.

About this time last year I was stumbling around the Amazon basin and met more than a few roadside chicha morada proprietors. I'd watch their salivary starters, trying not to hurl and discretely wonder if they ever put cocoa in with the maize mash.

They grow cocoa in Chicago?

Lol, Bloomers is a major raw chocolate supplier nation wide. They sell to all major chocolate companies as well as manufacturer industrial coco processing equipment. If you're ever in Chicago, all of western downtown smells like chocolate because of them.

They also sell directly to the public for pretty cheap
