Hello! First of probably many Mead posts on here

I really like that rich purple color that comes from butterfly pea with a lil acid. Is there any special tips/suggestions to create a mead with that purple color intact?
I'm wondering if something would need to be done in order to preserve the color.

I have a batch going that I used butterfly pea with but it is still fermenting away and so i do see some purple but its hard to tell how it will look at this point.

Just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this stuff

Well, I’ve never used that ingredient myself, and most of the instances that I’ve read about it folks are looking for the pure blue color to shine through. Does it impart any flavor of its own?

Most recipes that I've seen add the Pea flowers in secondary, after stabilizing. Adjust acid very sparingly after adding the flowers & give it @ least a couple of days in between adding more acid to judge where you want the color to end up. Be careful not to add too much acid or it will turn into a nice looking, but a rough glass of mead to drink.
I hope this helps you.
Happy meading 😎

Doesn’t seem to have any strong/distinct flavor. More just earthy tones

Thx for the advice! I’ll likely need to adjust it a bit in secondary. I really want a drink that looks like Rejuvination potions from Diablo 2, but I want it to be something that ppl want to drink too :p

Great idea! Still have some dried ones here form a saison I have brewed years ago. Should be fine in a mead too!
