Inspired by the great build done by jcarp I have a question.

Is it better to use a tall round cooler or would a shorter rectangular one be as good?
I'm in the UK and the round type are hard ( expensive) to get hold of.

While I remember I have more questions.
Is a false bottom better than a braided tube/perforated tube in a mash tun? If so why?
Is there any reason to fit a heating element under the FB ?
In a constantly recirculating system is the space under a FB full of liquid?

Many thanks. Aamcle

Hiya

Square is fine, I used one for the first 4 years I brewed
In a cooler, you will need a manifold or a SS braid. Either will work, I used a braid.
Fiting a element....in the mash tun...not needed
and yes if you have a FB, it will have wort under it.

Hope that helps

Tim
