Hello all,

I want to start making my yeast starters in the flask itself. I heard coils aren’t good to use but would something like this work? If this would work would it be ok to go directly from the heat into an ice bath? Thanks!

Feel like this would be even better. Heard that glass tops or ok for the flask.

You can boil in a erlynmeyer flask. You just need to make sure it’s rated for boiling temps. Pyrex works well. Just read the product description to make sure it rated for heat. I’ve seen a few from China that are cheap knockoffs and they can crack or shatter. I learned the hard messy way. Cleaning 5l of hot wort with bits of glass sucked.

A hot plate could be just as hazardous as a coil-top burner if the e-flask doesn't have a flat bottom.
Poor heat distribution at high power settings could cause an unhappy ending...

Cheers!
