Yeah... "thousands of years" is a bit of an exaggeration. The british colonized in india in (I think) the 18th century, so the style is at most 300 years old. Plus, it almost died out for a while, living on the fridge until it's recent explosion of popularity.

I go through phases myself. I love a good IPA but I get burned out on them pretty quick and switch to malty beers...and then I start missing the hops and drink IPAs until I get burned out on them again.
It's just a vicious cycle, isn't it?
