So I've searched all over for a thread to answer my questions but I couldn't find much. So...

1. I guess I don't understand the use in bulk grains unless you are buying and storing many types of grain. My LHBS said if anything go with 2-row. In my opinion I've only brewed with the same strain of grain a couple of times. The species of grain determines the flavor correct? So for each type of beer you would need different grains? Or does the combo of grains not matter as long as you get to the right color?

2. Suggestions on mills that can be power drill driven?

3. Are there any clubs or groups in MD/DC area that have bought a palate of grain and want to get rid of a bag? Don't want to pay the $60 for the LHBS.

Thanks for reading

Different grains contribute different aromas, flavors, fermentable sugars, and colors.
Some are nearly 100% interchangeable depending on the malting company and how they roast/dry/kiln their malt.
that being said, the backbone of most beer is a base malt, like 2 row barley or pale malt. they are cheaper when bought in bulk and that is one way to cut costs of brewing.

almost any mill can be driven by a drill or a motor and pulleys, I have a schmidling malt mill and am happy with it, you'll get lots of different opinions and I think almost all the major mill manufacturers are decent, monster - barleycrusher - others I can't remember.
