My buddy and I have our first bug-containing batch in primary right now (Brett Saison). I have not yet purchased a second set of cold-side plastics. Most people recommend buying a second set to reduce the chance of bugs getting into a clean beer.
What about unwanted bugs getting into another beer with bugs? Imagine down the road we want to make a Berliner Weisse and don't want Brett in it. I'm assuming that those who brew with bugs use only one set of plastics for all bugs. If all we need to do is sanitize our plastics after bottling the Brett, why get a second set of plastics at all?
We have 68 batches under our belts and have never had an infection. My thought is that a second set of plastics is unnecessary.
