NOT A RECIPE....sorry....but some insight from the brewer...

For all of those turning to brewing a Pumpkin Ale, I came across this and thought I would share. See the link....scroll down to the Buffalo Bill logo and read what the brewer says. What I found interesting was this; "We always experiment with the base beer, but it’s generally a red ale/amber beer. We are looking for something with an orange to red hue. All the color in the beer comes from the malt. None comes from the pumpkin."

Does anybody have a suggestion for a kit to start with? I'm in a hurry to get it going so not really interested in a lot of time spent putting it together....

Hope this helps those getting a late start (like me) to a pumpkin ale, BTW just found the Libby's 100% Pumpkin at Wally World, it's out now. Also picked up some Pumpkin Pie Spice in the spice rack...hard to find but it's there....

I've been reading posts/threads for about a month now for Pumpkin Ale. I only found limited amount of extract recipes. I'm going with this one.

I've heard mixed reviews with actually using pumpkin in the brew. Some say only steep with pumpkin while others say add to last 5-10 min of boil, some for full boil while some say it's not even worth putting it in. For me if I'm making Pumpkin Ale, I'm putting some in.
I plan on baking the pumpkin. I'll spread out on cookie sheet and bake for about a hour then add to full boil.
Now for the tricky part.........The addition of the spices. Some actually add each individual spice separately and the amounts vary per recipe. The one thing you don't want is over spiced brew. I'm going with pumpkin pie spice which has all or most ingredients already in it. I'm not adding any of it until either bottling or secondary. So that I can add to taste.
good luck, Pete

I came across this on BYO's site, seems pretty simple....there are a few other ones on there as well, just search "pumpkin".....same here going to go with the pumpkin pie spice too.....
