So, I brewed a double IPA, 6 oz of hops in the boil (Columbus, Simcoe and Centennial (FO)), and a 1oz cascade hop tea at bottling. Its the best beer Ive made by far. But at a FG of 1.020 and a bijillion IBUs, its not exactly a session beer. So I was thirsty the other night, had a bunch of bud light on hand, and tried:

IIPA/BL
75/25
50/50
25/75

The 50/50 is perfect if you want 2-3. But believe it or not, the 25%IIPA, 75% BL is ridiculous! Ive had too many tonight already. Its crisp, refreshing, aromatic, and the way Im looking at it, its gonna make my IIPA last 50-75% longer. When I feel like it, I'll drink it straight, like I did my first one tonight. But it really tastes good blended with my beer!

Anyone else ever try anything like this? or am I just :drunk: ?

yeah man... we took a light beer clone we did and started mixing it with our stouts... it was great... But never tried it with an IPA... will investigate...

Bud Light sucks but blending your home brewed beer is cool! It reminds of the vintners in the California wine country taking different varietals of wine and blending them together to get the right flavor profile. It's becoming a new fad in the craft beer brewing world. I think there is an article in the latest edition of BYO magazine. (haven't finish reading all of it yet)

I guess you dont like your IPA very much to put it through that excruitiating. Pain. You could have just watered it down with the same effect.

1. You may not know it, but you just opened the HBT flood gate.

2. The home brew beer gods will get their revenge on you for this transgression.

3. Yes, you are drunk.

4. To each their own.

5. Ick. IMO, but refer to number 4.

6. The beauty of home brewing is that you can brew your next double IPA with this in mind. Alter it to make it more suitable to your taste buds.

Vintners don't blend charles shaw with bordeaux though .... At least mix two good beers or if you really want it lighter just brew it that way in the future. All the work and passion to mix it with a bad commercial brew just makes me a sad panda.:(

Aaaah, just as I had hoped! But really. It is delicious on its own. Like I said, the best beer Ive made. But it really does taste delicious with bud light. And the best part is, I can drink it at full strength (wow), or at 1/2 and 1/2 (oh yeah), or 5 at 75% budlution (hell yeah). Its like I brewed 3 beers for the price (and effort) of one!

You are obviously drunk.

I had and IPA mixed with a hard cider last night, it was delicious. That may help stretch your IPA without mixing it with Bud Light.

Sounds like you have been having fun. But remember, guys, please drink and post in moderation.

HA! I am sitting at a local pub drinking a Left Hand milk stout reading this thread aloud to a brewing buddy of mine. When I read the part about "budlution" I lost it. Practically had milk stout coming out my nose. That is some good stuff. You obviously got down on some of your concoction tonight.

Well I entered my "base" IIPA in the Brewmasters Open and didn't place, but was pretty happy with my 35 and 2 "flawless" technical marks in my first ever competition! I will have to enjoy my last couple bottles here soon, but I am thinking of modifying the recipe with a little stronger malt backbone (per the judges recommendations) and then blending with a separately brewed victory/biscuit ~3.5% session ale. That way I can do 1 keg of blend (50/50) and ~10 bottles each of full, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75, and session only. I'm thinking enter all 5 in a competition and see who scores the highest.

HaHaHaHa. I like that response, "Please drink and Post in moderation."

BTW - I would NEVER mix Bud with any of my homebrews. I have mixed store bought beers and homebrews, but never Bud.

I stopped drinking Bud when I was about 16 years old, after I got my first job, and when could afford something better.;)

WOW.

My FIL has a tougher time sometimes handling the hop bombs I bring over to try and he'll mix it with bus light and really enjoys it. Don't knock it without trying it. And it really wouldn't be the same thing as just adding water... BL is around 4% abv and it's carbonated and it's not imposing on the flavors of your homebrew. Drink what you like and let others do the same

Now that you know what you like for a session beer why not brew it to specs the right way? I have a low on the bitter and ABV% but high on the flavor and aroma hops IPA. I designed it to be my summer beer.

Exactly, just tone down your recipe and you'll probably be able to replicate results in a much cheaper way. Less spent on base malt and less spent on bud lights. To each their own though.

There is a beertender at Goose Island on Clybourn that is a master at blending. Its a ton of fun to just have him mix you up a little taste.

I often mix homebrews. Either with each other, or with any "yellow" beer on hand. Sometimes even cheap NA's if I want more beer but have to work the next day. Tastes great!

Whatever floats your boat, right?

Shoot, last night I mixed some NA, some of my hoppy IPA and a recent batch of Hefe all in one big mug. Delicious.

Why not brew your own Biermunchers BMC clone and mix it up? Or brew up a batch to try and match the flavor profile? An APA/Pilsner experiment?

Don't know maybe I just don't get the fascination with mixing great beer with cheap beer... I do get mixing great beer with great beer though ;)

I definitely like blending a variety of different beers (homebrew included) with cider (both homebrew and commercial)...
