Hi guys,

Just started my first ever home brew, attempting mead. I've done everything as instructed, but the bubbler won't stay half and half of water? One side just stays completely empty. Is this normal?

Cheers

If it is going to the side toward the fermenter it probably means that it is still cooler than the air temperature and the pressure in it is lower than the air pressure. As soon as fermentation starts it will go to the other side. Then the bubbles will start passing through. What you are seeing it totally normal.

On that note - I always find that it is best to use some sterile water or some alcohol to avoid getting any contamination if you get some suck-back through the airlock.
