So during my first brew ever I learned a few things. One being that you are supposed to put the bubbler on the lid first then put the lid on the fermenter bucket. I did not know this....

So I put the lid on locked it in to place then grabbed my bubbler. *here is the bad part* When I put the bubbler in the hole I popped the rubber seal right in to the bucket! I tried and tried to get the seal out with a spoon.. but I finally had to use my arm... LOL I did my best to sanitize my hand and half my arm. Did I do a huge no no by putting my arm in the wort?

I hope I don't have stuff growing in my beer!

Well, you're not the first person to do this and in most cases, the batch turned out ok.

I hope so. I know how important sanitizing is.. I think it will just take a few brews for me to get the hang of every thing.

As long as your arm was sanitized, it should be fine. I did something similar a few days ago...I had just racked my wee heavy from primary, and I went to put a solid undrilled stopper in the carboy until I had time to harvest the cake. Well, I hadn't used that stopper before, and bam, it went right into the carboy. Ugh. So I ended up pouring the yeast cake out , then rinsing the carboy with a bottlejet...then I took a wire hanger, made "tongs" out of it, with the end of each "tong" turned back in a hook. After a few tries, I got it out of there...what a pain! Though, it could have been worse...there could have been beer in there.

Oh my that sounds like a pain!

Kinda like a crazy game at the State Fair... Win a stuffed animal if you can get it out with out touching the sides! :p

Welcome to the infamous "push the airlock grommet into your brew, club"! :mug: I did the exact same thing on my first brew. The only difference was I sanitized my wife's arm instead and sent her in after it. I reasoned that there was less overall surface area and with much less hair! She bought it! :ban:

By the way, mine came out fine, and in fact was pretty damn good!

yep, I did it too. I didn't go after it, just used my siphoning tubing to make a blow off tube instead of using my airlock. The next time I was at the brewstore, I bought a couple more of those grommets.

Now I feel like Rainman- muttering to myself while brewing, "Airlock on the lid BEFORE lid on the bucket". Welcome to the club! :mug:

fwiw, I usually dip tubes/air locks/ect into a bit of my sanitizer right before pushing them into the grommets and bungs to reduce the friction a bit.

....hmm..that doesn't sound right ;)

Its a learning experiance, 1st time does not mean your dumb, it does when your a repeat offender of the same crime against BEER.

To many offences means you have to EBAY all your equiptment for $1 and never get into brewing again.

:mug:

I'm happy to hear that I'm not alone on that one :)!" I was standing over the bucket thinking to my self "man... that was really stupid" "How are you going to get that out

BTW the beer turned out great! Now I just have to try and not drink it all before St Patty's day. I'm hoping to have a party and still have some of this stuff to drink!
