Hi, Ive just started my first bacth 24 hrs ago,now theres all brown bits in the foam? (it was meant to be 23l but i only put 20 l), also the airlock has only half of the water left in it, i think ill put more in now to make it half full again, and it keeps bubbeling every few minutes does any of this mean good or bad new's.

Sounds like everything is going fine. I'd guess you'll have some good beer if you let it do its thing and you didn't do anything really wrong like stirring your wort with a toilet brush. You won't know for sure until its done and carbed though.

I would leave it alone. Everything sounds fine. Brown bits in the krausen could be any number of things, but almost assuredly its nothing bad. As far as the airlock being half empty... if its a three piece airlock, most likely the center piece has just been pushed to the top of the airlock and is no longer displacing as much water. In other words- perfectly normal. RDWHAHB.
