My new single tier is just about finished. It's constructed from mild steel and its ready for paint. I want to go with VHT flameproof but in order to get the shiny finish I want to put a clear coat on it as well. My question is about the cure and when to do it. Should my order be:
Black, black, clear, cure
Or
Black, cure, black, cure, clear, cure
Or
Something else I haven't even thought of. Thanks for the help

When I done the headers on my truck I cured the paint, cleared it, then cured that.

If you're using compatible coatings, ( re: VHT and VHT),follow their recommendation.

If not, contact VHT, and ask whether you can clearcoat before fully cured.

Sometimes the clear will "lift" a cured finish, and sometimes not.

If the coatings are compatible, clear can be applied before "full cure" on the basecoat, and they will "outgass" together.

I recently dug into this, and - for the VHT "flame proof" paint (the 1500-2000°F stuff) at least - they actually recommend curing each &^%#@ coat!

Sounds like a royal pita to me...

Cheers!
