What to brew for the cool months of October and November in the Northeast? Just curious to see what some fellow brewers plan for the fall and early winter. You input may drive my plans. For now, I’m trying to keep the budget around $20. Thinking about a slightly smoky porter. Any other recommendations?

I have two on deck to brew in the next few weeks

Samhain Pumpkin Ale for fall 2010 and

Fireside Barleywine for fall 2011

unfortunately I don't know if either of these will come in at your price point. Its never too soon to plan for the future though! I think the one problem for you is that the 'cool weather' beers tend to be a little bigger, and so need a little more lead time to be ready for consumption.

I made a chocolate porter yesterday, have a chocolate stout aging for November, and just kegged a foreign extra stout recently. Probably gonna be doing a Belgian dubbel soon.

This is the time when I usually do stouts/porters/browns, basically darker and maltier beers. Though I do throw some IPAs and IIPAs into the mix.

This time of the year makes me want a thick, dark, roasty, malty beer with a higher ABV.

Kegged.......................Dunkelweizen
Kegged 3 days ago.......English Old Ale 8%
Primary #1................. Holiday Spice Ale 7.5-8%
Primary #2 ..................Pumpkin Spice Porter 6.5-7%

I am about to brew Jamil's Chocolate Cherry Stout (Black Forrest Stout). I am pretty excited for it this winter.

for this winter i am brewing a chocolate stout, gingerbread brown ale, and an ipa. i am going to brew my winter brews much earlier this year. i will brew a barleywine and a quadruple in the next month or two for winter beers next year, probably along with this gingerbread brown and ipa. ipas are year round for me.

I brewed a lower ABV spiced holiday brown ale as a casual consumptive. Later I will be doing ciders and a mid-range chocolate stout. It seems to be a beer that people don't like at first but find they miss when it's not around.

I'm usually brewing a pumpkin and a christmas spiced ale about now, but my brewing schedule has been curtailed due to time restraints over the last year or so.... :(

I did just brew my first CDA though, and I'm thinking about a quasi-rauchbier (ale rather than lager) next, so I'm all about the higher ABV/dark/smoky theme that many of you posted....
