Has anyone ever tried adding a little bit of water that has been smoked to their wort? I melt ice on my wood fired smoker and let it melt then pour the melted smoked water back into ice trays and refreez. I use these to make smoked bloody mary's and they turn out with a great smoky flavor. Just wondering if this would work making something like a smoked porter. Any thoughts?

I only refreez to make icecubes for cold drinkd. I was thinking about pouring a small amount in the wort after boiling it to sterilize it.

That would work too.

I smoked some two row with pear wood last weekend. Thinking about a smoked IPA.

Good luck with your brew.

I was cooking down a pork shoulder in a pressure cooker once and decided to throw some of my toasted french oak chips in with the water to see if it would infuse any flavor. It did, and it gave me the same idea of trying to "smoke" the water for a smoke-type beer. I haven't tried it yet, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't do it. Isn't that the joy of homebrewing?
