So I was repackaging a couple hundred lbs of grain today and I was thinking that Ergot would give a hell of a kick to a beer.

Any of you science people know if ergot would survive the milling and boiling process. It makes it through into bread doesn't it?

:) Note the smiley here. Idle curiosity.

Make sure there isn't any fungus growing on it otherwise you could have a rather...."eye opening" beer on your hands! :fro:

from what I understand, even thinking about getting ergotamine near your beer would be a bad idea. ergot poisoning is a slow a painful death.

yea from what Ive read, and it is anecdotal ergot poisoning has be attributed to some of the mass hysterias / massacres of history LSD may be eye opening but ergot poisoning sounds different.

You need a lab to cultivate viable ergot. In beer its not possible. Ergot so damaging you shouldn't even consider it. You can't have pure ergot unless you are beyond clean. Its not like making beer. It is chemistry to a higher degree.

I suggest you simply enjoy a robust rye beer without potentially damaging yourself or others.

Ergot is no toy. Its not worth messing with.

Lol, I saw the title and went.... whaaaaa. Lol, although I'm sure this post is half joke... ya bad idea. I'm pretty sure ergot makes u violently ill. Just cause Lsd is refined from it doesn't mean the full fungus is safe.

Hehe.. kinda reminds me off something my mother says about moldy bread sometimes and penecillion. I have had to tell her a time or 2 that moldy grains may have played a part in the witch hunts.

Although it is the only naturaly occuring form of lysergic acid it takes extreme heat and some chemical soup to convert it to dyethlemide <- (not spelled right).Just the acid will make you die.Probably won't taste good either:)
