So we are brewing an all grain rye batch tonight. I ran out of time this week and didnt get the yeast starter going until last night (have it on stir plate). Would there be any benefit to boiling up some more DME now (5:30pm) and adding it tonight when we finish our batch which will probably be somewhere between (midnight-2am)?

Probably not. Unless you plan on pitching the whole thing, you might want to chill it down while brewing and then decant the majority of the liquid before pitching the yeast.

Seems to me the White Labs guy on youtube said running a starter more than 24 hours was pretty pointless. Settle it out & decant I say.

I know a lot of people that make a starter the night before they brew. I have done it a couple of time as well.

FWIW from a beginner:
My starters have been pretty casually made and they're usually made just the night before. Granted, I've not yet tried to whip up any super-strong brews, but I've had no problems.
