I started brewing about 20 years ago. My brother owned a homebrew supply store and worked as a Masterbrewer at a couple of the local microbreweries. I learned a lot from him and was primarily a weekend partial mash brewer.

I even got a chance to assist in starting up an Allen Pugsley designed 7 barrel brew system. The first beer brewed was named "Misery Brown Ale" based on what it took to get the product to keg.

I've taken a 15 year break from brewing but have recently started up hobby brewing again. Great to see that there are some great forums for home brewers.

welcome. you chose a bad time to restart in maine ;)

You talking about trying to do full boils outside in the garage/driveway/patio Lumpher?

Hey Tyru007, where did your brother work as Masterbrewer? I've been in Portland for quite awhile, but I grew up near Newport and SWMBO went to Mt. Blue. So I've seen a bit of the state, did he work at anyplace I might have heard of?

Welcome to the forum:mug:

Well, Corinna, if you wanna get specific. :p We got up to Bangor plenty on the weekends, that's for sure. :)

What about yourself beninan?

Winter is a great time to brew. Wort cools pretty quick outside in s snowbank and basement is holding a nice 63 def F.

My brother started up and ran the Carrabasset Brewery for a while. Also worked as a consultant at a few of the other Maine Microbreweries.

I swear I replied to this yesterday. Maybe I forgot to submit it...

Anyway, I dated a girl from Corinna back in high school. I grew up in Corinth and now I'm apartment hopping in Bangor.

Tyru, is Carrabasset Brewery still around? I haven't had a chance to try any of their beers, but would be interested in checking them out.

Beninan, your like the 5th person I've met who hasn't said "Corinna? Where's that?"

Glad to meet some fellow Mainers on the site!:mug:

The Sugarloaf Brewery produced Carrabasset Pale ale and was located at the base of sugarloaf ski resort as part of a brewpub called Theos. They closed up shop in 2005. It is now "The Rack BBQ", which is owned in part by Seth Wescott. I am not sure if they still have the microbrewery.

I'm guessing that the Casco Bay Brewery is continueing to brew Carrabasset Pale Ale, but I am not sure if it is the same formulation.

I bought Carrabasset from Shipyard last summer. My favorite Maine beer is Casco Bay Riptide Red. Does anyone have a clone recipe for Riptide Red?

I think you mean Sebago Riptide Red? which is in my top 3 fav of all times as well.

did you ever find a clone?

Edit: I was thinking runabout red from Sebago ;)

They don't do the Micro at Sugarloaf anymore, I'm pretty sure it's the same recipe that is now done by Casco Bay Brewery. I grew up 10 minutes north of Sugarloaf, and spent a couple of years living in Pittsfield... very glad to see some people from the 207 on here!

So far I haven't found a clone. I believe Shipyard bought Casco Bay as I purchased some Riptide Red at the brewery last summer. Looking forward to our annual ME vacation this summer. Will definitely be stopping by the brewery!
