Going to be doing a hefe soon, never done a whet beer before, any tips or advice for this style in brewing? Also gonna do a late DME addition, if i do this from what I've read you should throw about 1lb. Into the boil in the beginning for hop utilization and the rest in about 20 min. Till the end, correct? FYI yep I'm doing extract. Thanks for any help.

Well ok I get the whole lb per gallon but I was kinda thinking about late addition and was asking the question as to when and how much extract to add at the end. From my understanding not adding any malt at the beginning of the boil will not utalize the hops, and I'm not sure how much to start with. Also I'm wondering how much on a recipe I should cut back on hops because I hear doing a late extract addition you get more out of your hops correct?

download Beersmith and plug it all in.

a lot of people add the remaining DME/LME at 15 mins left. I add it at flameout.
I'm not too worried about the infection business.

you can boil as much or as little as you want and start with as much or as little DME as you want. like you said, the closer to water the substance is, the better hop utilization you get.

use beersmith, seriously. Boiling 1 gallon of water with 1 lb of DME is very different than even 1.5 gallons of water with 1 lb DME.

Pttttttttttttttttttttttttth for having to buy a PC to use beersmith.:cross:

but yes, good program
(Mac user, but sure if you can run Boot Camp, etc.)
