Breweries in Portland

I'm going to Portland in Aug. and would like to visit a brewery or two. Any one have a suggestion on a brewery to visit?

The tour guide at Full Sail said there are 47 breweries in and around Portland. Beertopia!

It depends on how long you have, and where all you want to go.

You cant go wrong with laurelwood on Sandy. If you like sour beers, the Cascade Barrel House is the place to go. The Lucky lab is good also. If you want to try a bunch of different local micro's you could go to a taproom like the Green Dragon, or the Horse Brass (a British pub).

Really, you just cant go wrong ANYWHERE, they are all good. Most Portland breweries are not sold nationally (like sandiego breweries).

My Portland expertise is lacking, because I joined the army in 2008 and haven't been back very much. A LOT has changed since then...

Rogue and Deschutes would be my choices, although they are both technically out of town breweries with Portland locations. Lots of choices, you have to narrow it down by what you are looking for, atmosphere, food, companionship, etc.

Lotsa options. I'd say your best bet for a brewery tour type experience are the bigger ones (Full Sail, Bridgeport, Widmir) and the like. Anywhere will have good beer for drinking.
You literally could just wander around and have plenty of breweries to stumble across:

It depends on how long you have, and where all you want to go.

Portland, OR ... one of the greatest places on earth.

i am fortunate enough to live here and i fully agree with that statement, i've moved out of town/state a few times, but i always find myself moving back here. it is an amazing town.

it all depends, there are a ton within portland, and once you hit the outskirts, there are even more.

Rogue is here (along with the original in astoria)

Dechutes is down the block and usually has a few on cask

cascade barrelhouse (like stated above) has some amazing sours on wooden casks.

Mcmenamens is fun if you're into movie pubs, walking around large properies (edgefield out in troutdale about 20 mins from portland

tugboat downtown isn't all that wonderful, but has a great amotsphere in their bar.

columbia river brewing company is still very young (about 1.5 y/o) but is an amazing place to go. Their brewery is sitting down below the restaurant surrounded by glass, so you can watch them brew, check out their equipemnt etc. and i've never had a bad brew from them.

It all depends on what you want to do, what you like, where you are at. Post up stuff that you like, etc

Sweet!! This is more what I was talking about. I've never done a brewery tour and would like to check one or two out while I was in town. Thanks for the link.

Just plant your ass in Portland and you will find beer everywhere.
Talk to the locals about different beers you would like to try and they will guide you.

Make sure to hit Hopworks Urban Brewery on SE Powell. Lucky Lab has been mentioned, their Hawthorne location is great, used to live very close to that one. One day really isn't enough.

Oooh yeah. We went to the Brews 'n Blues fest in Eugene and sampled some of their beer. Very yummy. And I got a free keychain out of my discussion with the guy running the booth, which I use daily (besides having their logo on it, it's a bottle opener

widmer is awesome and has some great food to boot! right across the street from mcmenamins white eagle, usually has free live music every night and a great patio as well.

Widmer is the tour I'll try to catch. When it comes to micro brews I have so many possibilities. I'm liking what the barrel house has though. Sours in wooden casks on tap! Holy crap that is awesome.
